Whole Foods Market, the Blue Ocean Institute and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch have teamed up to increase consumer awareness about the seafood we eat by labeling all wild caught seafood with Green (best pick), Yellow (good pick, eat moderately) and Red (avoid). You can get a pocket guide to safe seafood by going to the Seafood Watch website. Whole Foods has promised to eliminate all Red tagged seafood by 2013. My brother J Nichols has been instrumental in educating the public about ocean awareness and has worked closely with a number of conservation organizations, including the Blue Ocean Institute.
Additionally, J is the keynote speaker at the Plastics Are Forever International Youth Summit in Long Beach, California in March 2011. The summit is targeting youth education about plastic pollution and marine debris, solution-finding, and implementation. 100 young people will be given scholarships to the event.
