This recipe for my super sunrise citrus smoothie is perfect during the peak citrus months. It has a golden base of grapefruit, orange/tangerine and lemon, topped with apple, greens, ginger and a pinch of cayenne. This drink offers an ultra-energizing, liver-cleansing, refreshing sunburst to your day. I call this my peak performance wake-up drink during citrus season. As always, please make sure all your ingredients are organic.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 grapefruit
- 1 orange, tangelo or tangerine
- 1 lemon
- 1 apple
- 1” knob of ginger root, peeled and chopped
- 1 pinch of cayenne
- 4 leaves of kale, chopped
Preparation:
Peel and slice the grapefruit, orange and lemon and place in the blender. Chop the apple into 1-inch chunks and add it to the citrus along with the ginger root. Blend the fruit, adding ¼-1/2 cups of filtered water if necessary.
Add the kale and cayenne and blend until very smooth. Drink immediately.
Serves 1-2
Variation: Use ruby grapefruit and a Cara Cara orange or tangelo, and eliminate the kale. This will create a zingy, tart-sweet and rosy cocktail. If you don’t like the pulp in smoothies you can make this as a juice instead.
